Gilead COMPASS Initiative®: Tackling the HIV/AIDS Epidemic in Southern USA
Due to the slow process of the research and development of the right
medicines and treatments, several diseases are still prevailing in our
society. One of these diseases that has made a huge impact and has
affected families is HIV/AIDS, that has been declared as an epidemic by
the World Health Organization. The disease has a huge social impact on
the affected families making their life difficult. In times like these,
large-scale biopharmaceutical conglomerates must come together to start
an initiative that works towards providing funding to non-profits to
spread awareness and treatments to such families. Following the same
vision is the Gilead COMPASS Initiative® started by Gilead Sciences Inc.
to combat the existing Gilead HIV stigma for several African-American families in the Southern USA.
Gilead COMPASS Initiative® is actively working in the Southern USA in
collaboration with several non-profit charitable organizations that work
towards fighting the social effects of the diseases on the affected
families. With the help of this initiative, the organizations can
provide evidence-based solutions to meet the needs of the people and
families impacted by such a deadly disease. Gilead HIV treatment
are already targeted to transform and simplify the lives of people
struck by the disease but with the help Gilead COMPASS Initiative®, the
biopharmaceutical company is making a 10-year, $100 million commitment
to the society for providing the right knowledge and resources. Through
such a corporate funding program, three COMPASS coordinating centers
have been set at the Southern AIDS Coalition, University of Houston
Graduate College of Social Work, and Emory University Rollins School of
Public Health. These coordinating centers are responsible for
implementing HIV-related programs focusing on three primary areas:
- Reducing the stigma affecting the families
- Building the capacity and efficient knowledge sharing
- Trauma-informed care, well-being, substance use, and mental health
Through these COMPASS coordinating centers, local non-profits and
organizations can avail funding from four programs namely, SPARK!
Grants, core grants, transformative grants, and ACTION grants. Gilead
COMPASS Initiative® is also trying to make Gilead HIV meds
available for these families at lower costs. If you are a non-profit or
charitable organization working towards HIV/AIDS-stricken families in
Southern USA and need financial funding, then get in touch with Gilead
COMPASS Initiative®. You can send them a direct message through their
website or follow them on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
